Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage
The Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK-IRPA) is a federal scientific institute in Belgium responsible for the documentation, study and conservation-restoration of the cultural and artistic heritage of our country. Art historians, photographers, chemists, archaeologists, engineers and conservator-restorers carry out interdisciplinary research on the materials and techniques used in works of art and cultural artefacts and on the materials and methods used in conservation-restoration. The KIK-IRPA is a unique resource for scientific, photographic and technical documentation of the cultural heritage of the country.
Art & History Museum
The Art & History Museum (A&H) in Belgium is a federal scientific institution where you can see national archaeological artefacts from prehistory to the age of the Merovingians, as well as finds from Egypt, the Near East, Iran and Classical Antiquity. There are also non-European art treasures from China, South-east Asia, Central Asia, the cultural world of Islam, America and Oceania. Particularly famous is the collection of pre-Columbian art and another eye-catcher is the colossal statue from Easter Island. There is also a representative selection of European decorative art, ranging from Romanesque Art to Art Deco.
University of Zürich
The Swiss Art Research Infrastructure (SARI), hosted by the University of Zürich in Switzerland, is a national research infrastructure providing unified and mutual access to research data, digitised visual resources, and related reference data in the field of art history, design history, history of photography, film studies, architecture and urban planning, archaeology, history studies, religious studies, and other disciplines related to the visual studies, as well as the digital humanities at large.
SARI currently develops a tool for the translation of the AAT in French and Italian, and for the aggregation of translations to the Getty AAT.
Institut national d'histoire de l'art
The National Institute for the History of Art (INHA) is a public institution of scientific, cultural and professional nature in Paris, France, with the goal to promote scientific research in art history. It is placed under the dual supervision of the Ministry of National Education and Youth and the Ministry of Culture. For several years now, the Institute has been actively monitoring the digital humanities with an emphasis on the visual domain.
Canadian Heritage Information Network
The Canadian Heritage Information Network (CHIN), a Special Operating Agency within the Department of Canadian Heritage, offers valuable collections management resources to the Canadian museum community and online public access to millions of collections records. CHIN assists Canadian museums in documenting, managing, and sharing information about their collections, which in turn ensures that this information is accessible now and in the future.
CHIN developed the Nomenclature for Museum Cataloging, a structured and controlled list of object terms organized in a classification system to provide a basis for indexing and cataloging collections of human-made objects.
Federation and ressources on Antiquity
The Federation and ressources on Antiquity (FRANTIQ), located in Paris, is a cooperation of the Research Centers of the CNRS, universities and the Ministry of Culture. The organisation develops scientific tools such as databases and thesauri for art historians and archaeologists. They manage the multilingual thesaurus PACTOLS (acronym for Peuples, Anthroponymes, Chronologie, Toponymes, Oeuvres, Lieux, Sujets).
Getty Research Institute
The Getty Research Institute (GRI) is dedicated to furthering knowledge and advancing understanding of the visual arts and their various histories through its expertise, active collecting program, public programs, institutional collaborations, exhibitions, publications, digital services, and residential scholars programs. Its Research Library and Special Collections of rare materials and digital resources serve an international community of scholars and the interested public. The Institute's activities and scholarly resources guide and sustain each other and together provide a unique environment for research, critical inquiry, and scholarly exchange.
Belgian Science Policy
The Belgian Science Policy is a government organisation that offers financial, technical and management support to the ten federal scientific institutions in Belgium. They are mainly responsible for the management of major research projects, such as national and international networking projects, BRAIN-research projects etc. They also manage the Belgian contribution to the European Space Agency and are the network centre for organisations such as the Academica Belgica in Rome, the Royal Film Archive etc.
